In May 2023, a special project was successfully carried out at CP/N/St. Coombs Maha Vidyalaya, Thalawakelle, with the generous support of KOICA (Korea International Cooperation Agency) and AKOFE. This community development initiative aimed to uplift educational opportunities for over 775 students in a resource-limited rural school in the Central Province of Sri Lanka.
The project included:
- Distribution of stationery for Grades 1–5
- Medical aid kits
- Shoes for selected students
- Sports items
- A brand new photocopy machine for school operations
On 6th May 2023, a vital rural healthcare support project was implemented at the St. Coombs Estate Dispensary, Thalawakelle, with funding from KOICA and coordinated by AKOFE. The dispensary, which serves over 3,500 villagers, was in urgent need of essential medical equipment, tools, and medications to maintain healthcare services for the estate community.
This project was initiated in response to a request from the Estate Medical Officer and supported by the Tea Research Institute of Sri Lanka, and it successfully delivered the following:
- Essential medical equipment (stethoscopes, examination tools, surgical items)
- Vital medicines (paracetamol, iron supplements, antibiotics, etc.)
- Emergency equipment (stretchers, first aid kits, thermometers)
- Water filter for safe drinking water
- Repair and repainting of the dispensary gate
